Moso Bamboo
Phyllostachys, also known as nanmu bamboo and turtle shell bamboo, belongs to the Poaceae family Phyllostachys, which is a large evergreen loose bamboo. Bamboo plant height of about 20 meters, diameter up to more than 20 centimeters, is upright. Phyllostachys phyllostachys are bifurcated, and the leaves are lanceolate. Flower branches are solitary, spicate, bearing two flowers per spikelet, one of which is mature, ovary triangular or conical. The fruit is small, caryopsis, not dehiscent, with only one seed, brown in color, and thin seed coat. Flowering occurs in May to August, and the seeds mature in August to September.
Bamboo can grow in plains, basins, hills, plateaus and mountains. Among them, the elevation of the low mountain Yin (semi-yin) slope is the most suitable 500~800m, and the best growth in the valley, mountainside and mountain foothills. The average annual temperature of 15~21℃ and the annual precipitation of 800~2000mm are suitable for the growth of bamboo. Bamboo has high soil requirements, and usually grows well in moist, fertile, drainage and air permeability, pH4~7.0 in slightly acidic sandy soil. About 85% of the world's bamboo is grown in the south of the Yangtze River in China, mainly in Changning, Jiang 'an, Xingwen and other areas.
Bamboo is an important bamboo forest resource type in China, accounting for 70% of the bamboo forest area. Bamboo is widely used in construction industry, paper industry, agriculture and other fields because of its short growth cycle, rapid growth, strong reproduction ability, fast material formation, yield and other advantages, with high economic use value. Large-scale cultivation of bamboo can prevent soil erosion, regulate the local climate, purify the air, improve the quality of ecological environment, and play a huge role in maintaining and promoting the local social and economic development and environmental protection. At the same time, all parts of bamboo can be eaten and have medicinal value.
Cultivation history
Bamboo planting in China has a long history and is the hometown of bamboo. In 1736, Japan introduced bamboo from China and was the first country to introduce bamboo from China. In 1880, Western European
countries such as France and Britain began to introduce cultivation, and in 1890, the United States began to introduce cultivation. Bamboo has been introduced and cultivated in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Such as Japan, Britain, Germany, France, the United States, Italy, Russia, Belgium, Algeria and other more than 20 countries and regions in the world have cultivated, enriched the European and American countries of
bamboo plant species, its introduction and cultivation of bamboo is mainly used in the field of scientific research and garden ornamental.
Morphological characteristics
Bamboo is a uniaxial scattered evergreen arborescent bamboo plant with a height of about 20 meters and a diameter of 12-30 cm. It is upright, with a base internode length of 1-6 cm and a middle internode lengthof 40 cm.
Root and stem
The underground bamboo roots grow downward, the above-ground bamboo stalks grow upward, and the underground bamboo whips (underground stems) grow horizontally. Phyllostachys phyllostachys has two
branches per branch, no cylindrical shape between branches, the length of the section is 32~42 cm, and the longest can reach 50 cm.
Leaf
Bamboo leaves are dark green and lanceolate, 4~11 cm long and 0.5~1.2 cm wide, each 2~3 on small branches. Margin slightly serrated on one side, smooth on one side, leaf blade dark green, dorsal light green,
dorsal seta, petiole short. Dorsal leaf coat, tongue raised, with membranous cilia. The ears are not obvious, with shoulder hair, gradually shedding afterwards. The leaf sheath is purple brown, the ear is small, and the
seam hair is 1-1.5 cm long.
Flowers
Bamboo flowers are solitary, inflorescences spicate, each ear bearing two small flowers, only one mature flower. The ovary is triangular or conical, with two flower chambers, 3 ~ 6 stamens, 1 ~ 3 styles, 2 ~ 3 stigmas,
feathery, flowering in May ~ August.
Fruits and seeds
The fruit of bamboo is a caryopsis, long oval, 4.5~6 mm long, 1.5~1.8 mm in diameter. The fruit is small, not dehiscent, with only one seed inside the fruit, the seed coat is very thin, mature in August ~ September,
and the color is brown.
Distribution range
About 85% of the world's bamboo is grown in the south of the Yangtze River in China, mainly in Changning, Jiang 'an, Xingwen and other areas. Now in Asia, Europe, the United States and other continents have been
introduced and cultivated. Such as Japan, Britain, Germany, France, the United States, Italy, Russia, Belgium, Algeria and other more than 20 countries and regions in the world are cultivated.
Growing environment
Bamboo can grow in plains, basins, hills, plateaus and mountains. Among them, the elevation of the low mountain Yin (semi-yin) slope is the most suitable 500~800m, and the best growth in the valley, mountainside
and mountain foothills.
Growth habit
The most suitable annual average temperature is 15~21℃, the hottest monthly average temperature is 26~29℃, the coldest monthly average temperature is 1~12℃, the frost-free days are 210~330d, the annual precipitation
is 800~2000mm, and the annual relative humidity is 80%. Bamboo has high soil requirements, and usually grows well in moist, fertile, drainage and air permeability, pH4~7.0 in slightly acidic sandy soil.
Mode of reproduction
Under natural conditions, bamboo mainly propagates asexually through underground stems. Under artificial conditions, artificial propagation technology can be divided into two kinds: seed breeding and asexual propagation.
Seed rearing
Bamboo seed breeding is generally selected more than seven years old, good planting conditions of bamboo seed collection, generally in September to October, select loose fertile sandy soil ploughing, spring and autumn
can be sown. The seedlings should be planted in the smallest area as far as possible. When the original seedlings began to tiller, the adaptability to the environment was gradually enhanced, and conventional cultivation was
carried out in the transplantable field.
Primary value
Economic value
Bamboo because of its short growth cycle, rapid growth, strong reproduction ability, fast material, yield and other advantages, widely used in the construction industry, paper industry, agriculture and other aspects, not only
often used as housing construction, furniture assembly, weaving materials and other materials, but also can make a variety of utensils and crafts, such as bamboo MATS, bamboo hats, bamboo bowls, bamboo chairs and stools;
Bamboo pulp is processed as a raw material for paper making. It can also have a high use value and is loved by people.
